An Equicentral Property Showcase
Meldrum Property, 35 Connors Lane, Seville
9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
YVELG "Equicentral Showcase" and Annual General Meeting Tickets are strictly limited BOOK NOW to avoid disappointment! Many of you would be familiar with the term "Equicentral System," a sustainable horse-keeping model developed by Jane & Stuart Myers. In their own words, the Equicentral System "combines good (progressive) land management practices with equine welfare and natural behaviours." More information here: Equiculture - Jane & Stuart Myers Whether the Equicentral concept is new to you, or you have spent hours immersed in the theory, our Equicentral Showcase is your opportunity to see the system's principles and techniques implemented and functioning on a local Yarra Valley property. The property owner/presenter has been in your shoes! Despair over the mud in Winter and dust in Summer from year-round bare soils, weeds taking over when bare soils are rested, hay wastage, poor pasture growth, poor water quality, pugged wet areas, unsafe and slippery gateways and feeding yards, and the list goes on.......... The presenter will take you through her step by step transformation journey from the "traditional," unhealthy horse property, to learning about the Equicentral system, to grappling with feeling overwhelmed, not knowing how or where to start, through to seeing it all come to fruition, and ongoing plans for future stages of improvement and refinement. Topics covered will include: - principles and planning of the Equicentral system - preparing a hard surface (loafing) area - winter holding yards and dry feeding areas - the value of laneways - making use of geotextile materials - drainage techniques and protecting wet areas - mud management strategies - and much more.... Culminating in a farm walk to experience an Equicentral System in action!!    Current members of YVELG, there is no charge to attend, but we do require registration for catering purposes by Wednesday 12th of June.
